I found this Red Knot on the Grand Haven north pier this morning at 7:00 a.m.  It was still there at 9:45 a.m.

Buff-breasted Sandpipers Still Here

August 24 Email:

This is one of the two Buff-breasted Sandpipers that have been hanging out at the Wastewater on the center dyke.  They were out on the shoreline but up on the weedy area looking for their bugs.  Very tame.  They came within three to four feet of us.

Ken Sapkowski called and told me there were two Buff-breasted Sandpipers at Muskegon County Wastewater on the center dike.  So Carol and I went up there and found them.  They are very tame.

Saturday Birding and Friday Woodpeckers

Yes, it would have been difficult sitting on the Lost Lake bench this morning.  At least the trail was dry enough to walk up to the lake.

There were a number of birds at Snug Harbor and the Lost Lake Trail, none out of the ordinary (although eBird tagged 3 Black-throated Green Warblers as unusually high).  Others included a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk and my nemesis vireo in the Hemlocks, singing slower than most Red-eyed's but never showing itself to be Blue-headed!  A beautiful morning nonetheless.

Friday morning an old friend and I met at McGraft Park for a Covid picnic-table breakfast.  During our meal, Red-headed Woodpeckers flew and called all around us!
