Blue-winged Golden-winged Hybrids continued

.
Regarding the June 23 post below (Blue-winged or Brewster's) and its three comments, Ken Sapkowski emails:

"Here are a couple more photos.  The first is from the same area (Crockery Creek Natural Areaand shows a Blue-winged Warbler that also appears to have some white. Maybe a sibling?  The second is of the Lawrence's Warbler taken May 29 at the Kalamazoo Nature Center."

Three Pictures - Not So Recent

.
Awhile back, Bruce Delamarter handed me three color prints of things he'd photographed in the area -- American White Pelicans flying over Muskegon State Park this spring, a bat, and a Barred Owl.  I've finally gotten around to scanning and posting them.

Blue-winged or Brewster's? - See Comments

.
"Late yesterday evening, (6/22)Glenda and I went to Crockery Creek Natural Area to try once again to get a decent photograph of a Blue-winged Warbler.  Although the mosquitoes ate us alive, I finally got a pretty good picture. It was near dark, so I'm surprised it came out as well as it did."

Causeway Black Terns + Wastewater Report

.
I have seen Black Terns hunting the Causeway Pond several times in the past week.

I counted
9 Upland Sandpipers in various areas of the Wastewater both north and south of Apple during a shorebird survey June 15. They were actively defending territory and would appear doing hover alarm displays in reponse to my slowing the car after I heard them calling in fields. The only other shorebirds seen were Killdeer and Spotted Sandpipers.

A male
Orchard Oriole was in the high grass near the Maintanence Building south of Apple and 2 Sandhill Cranes in a field. Dicksissels and Grasshopper Sparrows were heard and seen both north and south of Apple; Bobolinks only north, for me at least.

(3/4 mile north of Skeels Rd.) in southern Oceana County.

Delayed Reports - Black Terns and Shorebirds

.
Email to Ric:

Some delayed reports. On the 13th of May I saw 3 Black Terns hunting the Causeway pond and stopped to observe them. I thought I would see black terns again on other days but have yet to chance upon any there.

Wastewater shorebirds on May 27th: 5 Semipalmated Sandpipers and 13 Dunlin along the north shore of the West Lagoon; three Upland Sandpipers, one on the ditch bank opposite  the second most western aerator and another along Swanson north, a third along Laketon west; plus Spotted Sandpipers and Killdeer, one pair with 3 young.
