Sunday Birds Here and There

Carol and I walked the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve this afternoon.  Finally, a day that really felt like spring!

We recorded 21 bird species including Yellow, Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers, White-throated, White-crowned and Lincoln's Sparrows, Virginia Rail (it oinked three times while we were chatting with Mike Boston), House Wren and Baltimore Oriole.

This Northern Flicker was swaying on the sumac out by the River.  The Lincoln's Sparrow was skulking in thick underbrush north of the pavilion.  First I tried taking an unobstructed photo.  Then I tried nailing jelly to a tree.

Meanwhile, Dan Lockard photographed this Ruby-throated Hummingbird at his feeder and this Snowy Owl at the Wastewater.  How often can you see these two species on the same day in Muskegon County?  Or anywhere?
