Harbor Island

Peregrine Falcon

Red-winged Blackbird

I spent a little time at Harbor Island this morning and the Red-winged Blackbirds are back.  I also found this Peregrine Falcon eating what looks like a Hooded Merganser.

For years there was a Hooded Merganser that spent the winter in that area hanging around with the relatively tame Mallards. Probably unrelated, but your unfortunate bird apparently wasn't cautious enough. Excellent photo. Seems early for the red-wings to be back, too, but this is a strange winter.

IN 2018 I had the Red-winged Blackbird on Feb 23. In 2019 I had them March 12.
