Mona Lake Eagles

Bruce Delamarter and I had an amazing morning watching the Bald Eagles at the east end of Mona Lake.

This immature went neck deep three times before ...

... coming out of the water with this trophy ...

... but then an uninvited guest...

... staked his claim!

We soon had 21 Bald Eagles on the ice all wanting fresh fish!

What a great way to start the week!

Looks to be a very tasty White Bass. Sounds like a great experience!

So jealous! I wish I could be home more. Did anybody figure out why the Mona Lake nest is gone? I wonder if they will rebuild. Beautiful pics.

Maybe the Mona Lake eagles just moved on? That was their second nest along the south shore; they used each for a number of years and then moved out. Kinda like the ones that lived near people in Grand Haven for a few years and the ones south of Fruitport for a few years. Dunno.

I watched the mother warm her eggs in the nest tonight. I'll have some pictures up on my fan page tonight. www.facebook.com/joegeephotography

So there is a new nest? Or do you have access to a different one? I've heard rumors of one in Twin Lake and one on a bayou in Grand Haven.

Joe, I have two questions. First (like Roxanne) I'm wondering where you are talking about regarding the new nest. Not necessarily exact location as you understandably may not want to post that, but it sounds as if you're referring to Mona Lake. Second, your Facebook page photo of the sunset off Pere Marquette Park is BEAUTIFUL! Would it be okay if I used that as the header photo on our homepage?

Don,
Awesome pictures! Where were you when you took these and how big of a lens did you use? I would love to be able to take shots like these. I've noticed the birds are very skiddish on the lake.
