Here are some checklists from a Muskegon County jaunt with Skye Haas (of Marquette) and Jonathan Lutz (Michigan Audubon executive director). Photos of the most significant species observed are embedded in the checklists. Click on the photos for direct links to my Flickr homepage.

I also produced a blog post on the fantastic purple coloration I observed for the first time ever, on the upperparts feathers of the Purple Sandpipers here:

And here's a bonus checklist from Old Rice Lake muck flats in Newaygo Co. (near Grant). No Snowy Owls there all winter, strangely.

Caleb, Wow! to all this discovered on "my" blog this morning! Thanks! You didn't even mention the White-winged Scotoer photo. And for anyone else reading this, if you haven't already, DEFINITELY click on Caleb's explanation and photos of the purple coloration in Purple Sandpipers. I'm looking forward to seeing that in person next time I'm out there. (Yesterday morning 1/7/12 there were six PUSA's along or near the breakwall, and the most noticeable thing to me was how FAT some of them were!)
You're right Ric!(strange)
Great read Caleb!
I looked back at all the earlier shots in the blog and NONE show any Purple (must not be using Sony);) so they must have to be in just the right lighting conditions for it too appear, or perhaps it might get "pulled out" by water droplets on the feathers? who knows, in any event -- it sure make you want to go out and see if you can get that in a shot or 2.

I was out on the pier today and the light has to be just right but I did get a couple of photos of the PUSAs showing the purple iridescence.

I agree Ric, some of them were very fat. Mike, Nikon seems to pick up the color purple just fine.

Darn it,
I was going to say "nice shots Rick" until I saw they were shot with a Nikon --- that explains the Purple. (Fringing)
