Roxanne, nice shots! Were there many still at Mona Lake? I was thinking about going there today as it looks like it might be a sunny day. Mike VanderStelt
Thanks! I counted 8 different ones on Mona Lake. They were active for a while when I was there, then about 5 or 6 of them sat in a tree and were content there for a long time. You should be able to see a lot of them. Roxanne Eacker
Hey Roxanne, All I found today were the Male/Female Adult residents, and a couple immatures. It was early afternoon, and I scaned the trees with Binoculars, but it looks at though they might have started moving off.(oh well) I sure hope next year turns out his good. Question -- I'll try to "hide it" as much as I can --- does your Career look similar to your first picture, and did you work for someone special recently, who's goal was to "move into a new house" but unfortunatly, it didn't work out? If I'm right, I'll explain how I figured it out.
Mike, That's exactly right! It was a very exciting Fall season for me. The hopeful tenants are very wonderful people. Now it's back to hauling boxes around in the middle of the night.
Oh,oh, I'm your new "biggest fan" I've always been "into" Aicraft. Been everywhere from walking the Tarmac at O'hare & shooting all the 747's as they leave in the morn. to helping out at Oshkosh. A friend of mine I grew up with was a controller at O'hare. You HAVE to come to a meeting or field trip -- I could talk to you for hours :) Your recent adventure must have been a Feather in your Cap, as you must be very accomplished to have been asked at all. Congratulations to you. They are people I would love to meet someday, your pretty fortunate! If you happen to fly over Twin lake sometime, -- secure the boxes and do a "Tex Johnson" manuver for me! (hey, there's always another job out there) ;) Take Care, and thanks for the reply. Stay safe.
I would love to go on one of the field trips, but I'm usually not in Muskegon on those days. If I'm still working at this place a year from now, I'm going to take most of my vacation in January and February instead of the summer so I don't miss out on all my favorite eagles and ducks. I'm going to try and bid days off around the May meeting if I can. I have to renew my CFI license the weekend of the 18th in Lansing anyway.
Ric sent me the Eagle video, it was very interesting. I shoot alot of Eagles, and I'm going to start paying particular attention to this, maybe there's something to it? It certainly is an area I've never looked at, and it would be interesting to see if, in fact, it's a reliable factor in a male/female I.D. process. In fact, I'm going to the Snug Harbor nest, which (if I see them both)I should be able to get close shots. If their is any differences, I'll post some head shots. You would think, if it's indeed a fact, that it might have something to do with feeding the young, but (I think) the male feeds them almost as much as the female. (Ric, correct that if you need to) Anyway, it will be a "fun" little study, and another reason to so shooting! Also, tell your Husband I envy him -- I bet the Finger lakes area is stunning from the air, I've driven through there many times. Take care! Mike V.
Snug Harbor nest ??? Ric has my e-mail address and he has my permission to pass it along to you. Also, if you're on Facebook, I'm listed with my full maiden and married names: Roxanne Sifuentes Eacker.
Yes, Snug Harbor nest -- my email is framework1@frontier.com and if you "ping" me an email, I'll tell you exactly how to get to it. I believe we DON'T publicly post nest locations in the Blog, and most everyone in here knows where it's at anyway. So, as you are giving every indication of a "responsible Birder" plus "teaching" Ric and myself a few new tricks ;) I think it's only fair that we "reward you (he,he) But, let me know if you even know where Snug Harbor is, as it will change my explaination to you. Mike
