Snowy Owl and Merlin at Muskegon Channel

Went to the north side of breakwater today and saw a Snowy Owl out beyond the elbow and saw this Merlin along the road heading to the channel parking lot. Didn't want to walk the rocks with camera gear to get better pictures of snowy -- no sidewalk on the northside!  - Don Neumann

Just to let you birders know, there have been 3 snowy owls the last 2 days(12/2 and 3) on the north break arm. Two adults and a juvenille. I have been out huntng ducks and have seen them on the way out and back in both days. Robert

Thanks, Robert. We may have "heard you" too when we were out there, if you catch my drift. :-)

Jeez Don,
I thought that nikon stuff was tough! you could have used the 600 as a walking stick, and the camera body as a grappling hook if you fell in.

Ric, I catch your drift. Sunday 12/1's longtail migration was epic. Four different times we had several mile long flights fly by us headed south. Each time it took a solid 3 or 4 minutes for the flight to complete, and then it was a solid 30minutes of little flocks stragling by. Monday 12/2 saw far fewer birds, but still a decent amount and the snowies on the pier. Tues 12/3 we got blown of the lake quickly by weather, but not before a snowy flew within 20yards of the boat out on open water. I need to get a good camera and start bringing it out there with me. Have seen some really cool things over the years on the open water. Robert
