Short-eared, Shrike and Golden at WW Today

From Rick Brigham by way of Chip Francke there was a Short-eared Owl and a Northern Shrike (both at their usual locations on the south Wastewater properties) this evening, and earlier in the day Travis Dewys saw the Golden Eagle, a Peregrine Falcon and a Great Black-backed Gull all on Wastewater properties.

Thanks for doing what you can. The MLive report on the owls at the WW will do harm.

I agree with Judy. I had not seen the MLive report nor the Chronicle article (I was out of town on Saturday when it was published.) Mr. Kloosterman did not return my phone call before publication nor to my knowledge did he contact Brian Johnson as I requested of him via email. Instead his article began with an invitation to shutterbugs that the snowies were at the Wastewater. Sheesh! His expert commentary about the birds themselves included a local photographer saying the owls come down here in family groups. Sheesh again! The only silver linings were a mention of our website not posting sightings of the owls due to bad human behavior, Keith Eisenbarth's comments asking people to respect the wildlife, and its being only in the web edition of the Chronicle (no paper edition on Saturday).

While I have to agree with your reasoning to not post information about the owls this year I am sad to see information not being shared. As a someone that is new to birding and bird photography this site has been a vast resource of information as to where to find and look for different species. I totally understand the need to protect these birds and others and the lack of respect some people will show but I will still miss the information and great photos being shared.
