Golden Plovers and Buff-breasted Sandpiper

September 1 Email:

I see that no one has reported the 31 American Golden Plovers and 1 Buff-breasted Sandpiper that Liz Notman found on Saturday at the Wastewater. They were together in a field along the east side of Swanson not too far north of the southeast access to the lagoons. We had nice looks as they were busy feeding not too far out.

No, I had not heard of these until now. My brilliant idea Saturday morning was to watch for fall warblers at the Bob Moblo pool at Hoffmaster. From 10:00-11:00 exactly zero warblers came through. I'm glad you guys had some good birds out at the Wastewater!

As of today the Buff-breasted Sandpiper was still at the same location. It is in field 33 (weatherd wooden post) next to the two track that goes out to the spray rig. Small wet area close to Swanson just north of the two track.

Whoops, I had a Buff-breasted and 45+ Golden-Plovers at the wastewater on Saturday and should've reported them to you! I did report them to eBird, though. There were other good shorebirds around like a Sanderling on the pipe in the northwest corner of the east lagoon, and a Black-bellied Plover near the northeast corner of the west lagoon.
