"Hummingbird Moth"

This White-lined Sphinx ("Hummingbird") Moth was checking out one of my planters Thursday evening. Don Neumann

Great pics, Don. We had one in our backyard a couple weeks ago; it was greener in the back than this one. Maybe they also have male/female coloration?

There are a couple varieties. The other has clear wings and I believe is more green

Yes, ours had clearer wings. I just Wiki'd these things -- there are scads of species! Technically I should not have posted "Hummingbird Moth" as that one doesn't live in North America. Other people I know call the local ones "hawk moths". No matter -- always very cool to see.
