Muskegon Channel Report - Caleb Putnam

March 10 to Mich-Chat:

All-

This morning I checked the Muskegon Lake Channel for the King Eider and Barrow's Goldeneye, with Sean Fitzgerald and Tomas Pedreros, and was unable
to locate the Barrow's Goldeneye. There were not many Common Goldeneyes present either, so the bird may have moved on (one must wonder if the Ottawa bird could be the same individual?).

Also, there were an amazing minimum of 12 Red-necked Grebes at this location, my personal high count for Lake Michigan by far. An additional bird was dead on the ice (as were many White-winged Scoters and Long-tailed Ducks, victims of starvation?).

Here is our checklist:

Also of note were my first of year Red-winged Blackbird, 2 Wood Ducks (presumed migrants), and a Common Loon.

Good Birding,
- Caleb
