Various Eagles at Wastewater Wednesday

Got this long (approximately quarter mile) shot of 2 Golden Eagles yesterday as I followed what I believed was a third who flew around a different set of trees and never re-appeared.  I'm 99% sure it wasn't either of these.  As I was planning on getting closer, they both flew off, up, and very high in the sky, soaring in circles, and drifting off to the east. Also, some of the usual suspects -- all on the East Lagoon.

Oh,is that the lens you use all the time? I am asking because I sold my Canon 400 2.8 L and would like to purchase a lens I can hand hold. Your pictures always turn out sharp and I would like to add whatever lens you are using to my list of possibilities.

Felix,
yes it is, but it's an A mount (Sony only) lens. You might want to ask Rick (Rich H) about his lens -- I think it's the higher end Sigma 200-500, if I remember correctly. If you scroll back in "older posts" a few pages, you can see some of his shots, they allways seems to be nice and sharp. one thing to consider though, is my A77 has built-in image stabilization, so you might want to consider a stabilized lens, as your Canon doesn't do it in-Camera. Your best bet, is to go to dpreview.com and go to the Canon forums and ask about super-tele lens that work best for your setup, they usually are a great help, and most will show example shots to backup their claims. If you want to shoot mine sometime, just let me know, and I'll meet you out at WW. and NO, you can't take it home. :)

Felix, I am using the Sigma 50-500mm and it does a very nice job. It is a stabilized lens and many of the photos that I post are shot handheld. I rarely use a tripod and only occasionally do I use a monopod. The lens focuses fast, letting me get pretty fair in-flight shots. It is the only lens I use for wildlife photography. If you would like to see other shots I have taken with the lens, here is a link to my blog. http://richhphotography.blogspot.com/
