Can Anyone Verify This Turtle Species?

I was wondering if anyone had information about this turtle that I found in our yard yesterday.   I believe it is a Wood Turtle but all the information that I have been able to find indicates that these turtles are not normally in the Muskegon area.  They seem to be mostly sighted in the northern part of the lower peninsula and the U.P.

Thanks,

Rick, it looks like a Wood Turtle to me. The last one I saw in Muskegon County was in the late 50's near the Muskegon County Airport.\

Rick, I just checked the Michigan Natural Features inventory web page and it looks like the last reported sightings were in 2008 for Muskegon County (7). You should go to there web page http://mnfi.anr.msu.edu/data/specialanimals.cfm and report your sighting.

You should enter your herp sitings like this into the Michigan Herp Atlas here http://miherpatlas.org/

This is a great resource being used to update and track Michigan's amphibians and reptiles, for common and uncommon species!

Thank you Anonymous. I had sent an email to the Michigan DNR and they confirmed the species and also asked that I report the sighting to the miherpatlas.org website. It has been submitted there and also to the MSU site that Charlie mentioned above.
