Sharpie or Cooper's?

.

This hawk was perched alongside Sullivan Road.  It didn't fly immediately when I stopped. When it did fly I saw that it was carrying a prey item and that probably accounted for the delay. I need a Cooper's Hawk for my year list so this is probably a Sharp-shinned.

I think you can comfortably check it off your list Michael, i'm quite sure by the perceived size, it's a Cooper's Hawk. Also, by the looks of the branch, as compared to the others, it's probably a "regular" perch for him/her. I'm glad to see it "mooned" you -- i'd have done the same :)

The pale nape is diagnostic for Cooper's Hawk in adult birds.
